In May, engineering professor Massood Tabib-Azar began developing a standalone device that can be connected to a cellphone to test for COVID-19. He received a $200,000 National Science Foundation Rapid Response Research (RAPID) grant to create this portable, reusable sensor, which is about the size of a quarter, works with a cellphone and can detect coronavirus in just 60 seconds.
