ASUU elections season is here. Voting begins Feb. 26 and ends March 3. To vote, log into CIS and click the “Vote Here” button in the top left corner. Results will be announced March 4 by 5 p.m. on the elections blog.

To learn more about each party, attend an executive debate:

• Monday, Feb. 22, 2016 at 7 p.m. in the Peterson Heritage Center, Room 1A
• Wednesday, Feb. 24, 2016 at 2 p.m. in the Hinckley Institute of Politics (OSH 255)

A brief summary of the platforms for each party are outlined below.

President: Jack Bender, junior majoring in film and media arts

Vice President of University Relations: Matt Miller, junior majoring in economics

Vice President of Student Relations: Jessica Patterson, senior majoring in communication

Students Leading Change is dedicated to the betterment of students through lowering and appropriating student fees, increasing university and community engagement and growing the identity of ASUU. We will lower and appropriate fees by splitting the trademark royalty fee on apparel that goes to Athletics, and lowering the total amount of student fees given to Athletics. We will improve university and community engagement by promoting campus safety, creating and maintaining a university events calendar, developing a central website for student involvement opportunities and promoting sustainable transportation. Finally, we will grow the identity of ASUU by creating an effective marketing strategy, educating students and faculty about ASUU, and adapting the roles of elected positions to better serve the students. As students of the University of Utah and members of the ONE Party, we believe in obtainable improvements that reach everyone, and we emulate this belief in our mission to encourage involvement, strengthen traditions and promote progress. We want to increase involvement on campus by creating a suggestion box for students, utilizing polls to gather student input on concerts, speakers and events, and transforming the ASUU website into the primary tool for involvement. We want to create and refine new traditions by improving Homecoming Week, hosting a variety of Game on the Green events and reinventing Recycle Rice-Eccles. Finally, we want to see progress for all students. We are already working with student groups to improve the campus climate, encourage equity and diversity and ensure that all students have proper representation so their voices are heard. We’re also passionate about educating students about sexual assault and domestic abuse, and how to combat those issues across college campuses with the help of the Student Advocacy Board.
