Dear International Students and Scholars,
As many of you are aware, a new Presidential Proclamation was issued Sunday, Sept. 24, 2017, that creates a new set of restrictions on travel for nationals from Iran, Syria, Yemen, Somalia, Libya, Chad, North Korea and Venezuela.
We have provided specific information on the impacts to international students and scholars on our International Student and Scholar Services website. Here are some basic points:
- Restrictions are specific and different for each country. For example, in Iran, individuals applying for F, M and J visas are not subject to the travel ban. Please visit our website for more information on specific countries.
- Restrictions on travel may impact family members planning to visit students and scholars on visitor/tourist visas from the above countries. If you have questions or concerns about family members’ travel plans, please contact ISSS to discuss.
- ISSS advises that students and scholars from the impacted countries avoid travel outside the U.S. If you must travel, including for an emergency, please contact our office so we can advise you. Please review our website for further guidance.
We understand this news may cause stress, anger and anxiety for many of our students, scholars and their families, whether from the impacted countries or not. If you have questions, concerns or just need to talk with someone, please contact us. Additional campus resources include the University Counseling Center and the Women’s Resource Center.
International students and scholars are an integral part of a vibrant and productive university community. You are welcome on this campus and we stand beside you in support during these difficult times. We look forward to hearing from you how we can best assist you.
Warmly,
Chalimar Swain
