CHEMICAL HYGIENE TRAINING
All individuals who work with flammable, corrosive, toxic, oxidizing, air or water reactive chemicals in the research laboratory are required by OSHA Hazardous Chemicals in Laboratories Standard (29 CFR 1910.1450) to complete Chemical Hygiene Training on an annual basis.
Participants will gain an understanding of the key laboratory safety practices and procedures that should be followed to conduct safe science when working in University research facilities. Presentation will include chemical properties of concern associated with storing and handling chemicals, and methods to prevent exposure. Understanding University labeling and signage, the handling and disposal of regulated waste, and spill clean-up procedures, will be described. How to report incidents, injuries, and illnesses will be explained and relevant campus resources will be discussed.
