From the end of May through the middle of July, Foothill Drive commuters need to be aware a construction project may impact their drive.
Salt Lake City Public Utilities will be doing work on a water main improvement project along Foothill Drive. The project contract hasn’t been finalized yet, but construction is anticipated to begin May 23, 2016, and run through approximately July 11, 2016.
Though most of the work will be done to the sidewalk on the east side and shoulder of the road near the off ramp from I-80 and I-215, some work will be required in the far east lane roadway. This may cause some short-term road closures or detours for those heading toward the U.
The map below shows the areas along Foothill Drive that will be affected.
Construction will be limited to weekdays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. unless the project falls behind schedule, then weekends may be utilized.
The purpose of this project is to install an updated water main equipped with a new Pressure Reducing Valve (PRV) vault in Scenic Drive. The PRV will add a redundant feed to the pressure zone that delivers water to several neighborhoods in the area. This project will also add additional fire flow to critical facilities on Foothill Drive.
The total contract time for the work is projected to be 45 days, but Salt Lake City officials anticipate the actual construction time in this area to be a week or two.
