The University of Utah’s Marriott Library is one of six national organizations asked to host a juried art exhibit sponsored by The College Book Art Association (CBAA). The four-year digital and traveling exhibit is titled Rising Together–an Exhibition of Zines, Artists’ Books and Prints with a Social Conscience. The University of Utah is the first library in the country to host the exhibit—at no cost to the university. The exhibit has been in place for several months and is scheduled to be moved to its next host on Dec. 17.

More about the exhibit, its jurors, artists featured in the exhibit and future hosts can be found online. The exhibit features 43 artists and pieces cover a wide range of subject matter including hunger, homelessness, refugees, politics and the environment.

According to the association, “the purpose of the exhibit is to give CBAA members an immediate way to react and give voice to issues of social justice, power, politics, and environment, as well as an extended opportunity to demonstrate to the broader community that artist books are powerful agents in effective positive social change.”

The library hosts a wide range of student, local and national art exhibits each year as part of its commitment to fostering vibrant and robust intellectual conversations on campus. The university and its libraries neither endorse, condone or censor the art in any of these exhibits. The university recognizes this particular traveling exhibit features emotionally charged content and could make some visitors and library patrons uncomfortable.
