To the University of Utah Community,
I want to reaffirm the University of Utah’s strong support for our international students, staff and faculty, who make rich contributions to our campus.
As you likely know, the U.S. Supreme Court agreed on Monday, June 26, 2017, to hear oral arguments this fall in a lawsuit over President Trump’s proposed travel ban. The court also permitted certain travel ban restrictions to take effect now.
Importantly, these restrictions should not prevent our students, staff, faculty and their dependents from entering the United States. Persons from Iran, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, Syria and Yemen who have a bona fide relationship with a person or entity in the United States — such as studying or working at a university — should continue to be excluded from the travel ban.
Nevertheless, the news is understandably unsettling for many of our campus community members.
Staff at the U’s International Student & Scholar Services have fielded many calls about these changes and have prepared this page to share information as well as helpful resources. They will continue to closely monitor the situation and expect more details to be released in coming days. Meanwhile, they continue to provide assistance to our international community members.
We remain committed to fostering a global campus, with contributions from outstanding students, staff and faculty from around the world.
