[bs_well size=”md”]As winter arrives and snow and ice cover the sidewalks and parking lots, it’s important to remember to walk safely around campus. Even as snow is removed from the parking lots, you can still encounter slippery surfaces, so please be aware of the dangers. Falls due to ice and snow are one of the most common injury causing incidents on campus. Click here for safe winter walking tips.[/bs_well]

Weather synopsis
A storm that is moving onto the west coast today will move into northern Utah late tonight and cross the state during the day tomorrow. Warm and windy conditions will be felt on the campus through early tonight. This storm system is not a wet system, but it will be bringing much colder air into the state during the day Monday. This will assure that rain will turn to snow over the university campus, and with rapidly dropping temperatures through Monday, this snow will begin sticking on roads and sidewalks, with slush developing. Temperatures are expected to fall well below freezing Monday night with winds from the northwest at 10 to 20 mph.
This forecast is being triggered by the possible snow accumulation of up to 3 inches.
Rain/Snow
Rain will develop tonight between midnight and 3 a.m. As temperatures drop, the rain will mix with and change over to snow between 6 and 9 a.m. Monday morning. Snow showers can be expected to continue through the day and mostly end by 3 to 6 p.m., though occasional light showers may persist through midnight. Any water, slush or snow on the ground will turn to ice as it is expected to freeze hard Monday night.
Total storm accumulation will be between one and 3 inches, with the better chance it is closer to one rather than three inches.
Temperature
Temperatures will be mild today (55 – 60 degrees) through tonight (40s) due to strong southerly winds. As the cold front associated with the storm pushes through the Salt Lake Valley tomorrow morning and the wind changes to northwesterly, the temperature is expected to drop through the day. The morning temperature will be around 40 degrees falling to the mid 30s by noon and will end up around 30 degrees by sunset. The low for Monday night will be 25 to 29 degrees.
Outlook
The rest of the week will see a warming trend with periods of light rain or snow showers. There may be a few showers during the day Tuesday but showers will be most likely late Wednesday and Thursday and again possibly over the weekend. Accumulations from these showers will be light to very light. Temperatures on Tuesday will be cool with an afternoon high of 35 to 39 degrees. Wednesday and Thursday will be warmer with a high near 50 degrees and Friday will see a high in the low 50s. The early morning lows the rest of the week will reach 30 to 35 degrees.
