Roomful of Teeth

By Sheri Jardine, communications manager, UtahPresents

Grammy-winning vocal project Roomful of Teeth will perform at Libby Gardner Concert Hall, 1375 E. Presidents Circle, on Sept. 26 at 7:30 p.m. The concert, presented by UtahPresents in partnership with the University of Utah’s School of Music, will feature the eight-voice ensemble performing a variety of works that reimagine the expressive potential of the human voice.

As the 2017 Virtuoso Artist, Roomful of Teeth have studied with masters from vocal traditions the world over. They continue to expand their vocabulary of singing techniques and through an ongoing commissioning process, they have forged a new repertoire without borders. The ensemble has studied with some of the world’s top performers and teachers in Tuvan throat singing, yodeling, Broadway belting, Inuit throat singing, Korean P’ansori, Georgian singing, Sardinian canto a tenore, Hindustani music, Persian classical singing and death metal singing.

In addition to the public performance, Roomful of Teeth will teach as master class to students in the School of Music’s chamber choir and Infrared a Cappella. Students in these two ensembles will work with Roomful of Teeth on specific vocal techniques for their performance repertoire.

The Virtuoso Concert Series, including educational opportunities for students, is generously supported by the George S. and Delores Doré Eccles Foundation.
