PBS Utah Town Hall: Your mental health

The event will broadcast live and stream online to reach the broadest, most diverse audience possible.

PBS Utah will present a live Town Hall special on mental health in Utah as part of an ongoing series of town halls discussing timely and relevant issues that Utahns care about. PBS Utah Town Hall: Your Mental Health premieres Thursday, September 23 at 7:00 p.m. on PBS Utah, with live streams on YouTube, Facebook, the PBS Utah website, and the PBS video app.

From the challenging experiences of the COVID-19 pandemic to cases of high-profile athletes in competition, mental health has never been more relevant.

The World Health Organization defines mental health as a “state of well-being in which every individual realizes his or her potential, can cope with normal stresses of life, can work productively and fruitfully, and can contribute to his or her community.” In recent years, there has been a growing acceptance among experts that mental health plays an important role in our overall well-being and is just as important as physical health.

Host RaeAnn Christensen moderates a diverse panel of experts from across the state to talk about the importance of mental health, the difference between mental health and mental illness, the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, mental health among underserved communities, and the life-saving resources available to those who may be struggling.

Panelists include:
– Kolenya Dempsey, Program Director, Utah Navajo Health System
– Andres Brown, Assistant Clinical Director, Encircle Therapy
– Javier Alegre, Executive Director, Latino Behavioral Health Services
– Susi Feltch-Malohifo’ou, CEO & Co-Founder, Pacific Island Knowledge 2 Action Resources
– Tekulvē Jackson-Vann, Therapist, The Black Clinicians
– Dr. Mark Rapaport, CEO, Huntsman Mental Health Institute

The Town Hall will broadcast live from the Dolores Doré Eccles Broadcast Center on The University of Utah campus.
