CELEBRATE U

Marriott Library and the Office of the Vice President for Research hosted a showcase of extraordinary faculty achievements.

The J. Willard Marriott Library and the Office of the Vice President for Research hosted the first annual “Celebrate U: A Showcase of Extraordinary Faculty Achievements” on March 9, 2016. The event highlighted University of Utah faculty who reached a pinnacle of professional success in 2015. Those honored were faculty who authored a book, were primary contributors to a realized creative work or were the top-funded researchers with their college. The J. Willard Marriott Library congratulates all honorees for their stellar work and contributions to the University of Utah and beyond.

Below is a representative sampling of those honored event. The categories include creative works, book authors and research awards.

Creative works

Barlow Bradford was the conductor for the University of Utah Chamber Choir, who won the 2015 European Gran Prix for Choral Singing. [/bs_col]

Kim Martinez created a cross-disciplinary mural at Esperanza Elementary. This was a community commissioned project that included art as a vehicle to create a culturally and socially empowering environment at the school.[/bs_col]

Carol Sogard has created “Our Cross,” which utilizes plastic grocery bags in weaving artworks, exploring new methods of weaving of reclaimed plastics.[/bs_col]

Erin Carraher and Jörg Rügemer won the 2015 Wood Design Award and were named the Regional Excellence Winner for their design and construction of three cabins for the Girl Scout’s Trefoil Ranch Camp near Provo, Utah.[/bs_col]
