From the planning process, to construction, to daily operations, Facilities Management is committed to providing the university with a safe, functional and attractive campus environment and is responsible for nearly 300 buildings on 1,500 acres.

While construction around campus can be a frustration, Facilities staff takes pride in the fact that with each improvement, it is supporting the truly critical work of learning, research and innovation that occurs on campus. As we build foundations for a better U, Facilities strives to keep the campus community informed of current construction and to provide resources. OSH

In late September, demolition of the exterior of OSH will begin. For a short period of time, the bike path to the south of OSH will be closed. This will reopen in early October and will remain open throughout construction. This image shows the fence line, and the yellow areas represent covered walkways. Demolition will take about six weeks. Construction for the new building will begin in early December. The new space will be open for classes in the fall of 2018.

SKI TEAM BUILDING

This new space is currently under construction south of the softball stadium. The ski team’s new building will be open in early spring of 2017.

CLEONE PETERSON ECCLES ALUMNI HOUSE

The Alumni House is undergoing a major renovation. The improvements and updates are scheduled to be complete in fall of 2017. Click here to read more about the Alumni House.

ACCESSIBILITY IMPROVEMENTS

The pedestrian underpass between Rice Eccles Stadium and the S. J. Quinney College of Law is now accessible to individuals in wheelchairs. Each summer, accessibility improvements are made throughout campus. Recent improvements include an accessible sidewalk on the south side of the Union and linking improvements near the Student Life Center and the basketball training facility.

ELECTRIC SHUTTLE ROUTE

Construction is currently underway on the last section of the electric shuttle route. This section runs between LNCO and Tanner Humanities. By Oct. 1, the electric shuttle route will be complete. This will improve transit access moving north and south through campus. When the electric shuttle route is implemented, the bus will carry passengers from the south campus Trax station to the engineering district of campus and back.

SHORELINE RIDGE GARAGE

Construction is moving along quickly for the Shoreline Ridge Garage. The structure will be ready for use in early spring of 2017.

CROCKER SCIENCE CENTER

Renovations and improvements to the Gary and Ann Crocker Science Center continue on Presidents Circle. The center will be open in the fall of 2017.

MCCARTHY TRACK AND FIELD

The field is currently under construction. Work to improve this play field will be complete in early October.

MILTON BENNION HALL DEMOLITION

This December, Milton Bennion Hall is scheduled for demolition. Early 2017 will bring a series of improvements to this area, including the completion of additional upgrades to Campus Center Drive leading up to the west side of the Central Parking Garage.

HIGH-TEMPERATURE WATER IMPROVEMENTS

A large infrastructure improvement project in underway to replace and update high-temperature water lines through campus. These pipes carry water at approximately 400 degrees that is used to heat campus buildings, provide hot water, warm the swimming pools and provide steam to many pieces of equipment on campus. While this is a lengthy and highly disruptive project, it will move through campus in small sections so no single area is disrupted for more than a few weeks at a time. This project is currently underway near the southwest entrance of HPER West and on the south side of Lassonde Studios. Construction will continue to move through main campus and will complete in the health sciences campus. The whole project is expected to be complete in 2018.

CHILLED WATER IMPROVEMENTS

A chilled water pipe project of a smaller magnitude is currently underway near the biology buildings on main campus. This improvement provides a more effective way to cool buildings in the summer heat. This project is anticipated to be complete by March of 2017.
