By Nate Furman, Assistant Professor of Parks, Recreation and Tourism and Co-Coordinator, Experiential Learning and Outdoor Recreation Education Program (U-EXPLORE)
The University of Utah is the clear choice for students who want to attend a university where the outdoors and adventure can be a part of their academic career. From the Wasatch Crest to the Colorado Plateau and from five national parks to 29 distinct wilderness areas, the state of Utah provides a setting for an education like none other. The department of Parks, Recreation and Tourism’s U-EXPLORE program, along with the Department of Health Education and Promotion’s Remote Rescue Training program and Campus Recreation Services’ Outdoor Adventures program, provide students the curriculum, experiences and rental equipment to make the “life” part of the work/life balance unique in the nation. It’s time to strengthen that message by being recognized nationally through Elevation Outdoors’ Top Adventure College tournament.
The tournament is in its fourth week. Thus far the U has knocked out Colorado State, Colorado University – Boulder and Northern Arizona University. In this round, the U is up against Regis University, a small college in Denver. The U is the only contender left from Utah and is presently down 70 percent to 30 percent.
Click here to vote for the U, ensuring a place in the championship round next week. It only takes 1-2 minutes the first time you vote to become familiar with the bracketing; afterwards it only takes 10-20 seconds. There’s no request to enter your email or any other personal identifiers and you can vote once every 24 hours.
Spread the word to colleagues and friends who would also like to see the University of Utah recognized for offering the education where students can make outdoor adventure a signature and transformational part of their experience.
