As a campus, we mourn the senseless tragedy in Orlando. We extend our deepest sympathy to all who are personally affected by loss of life and physical injury, and we join together to express support for our University of Utah LGBTQ students, staff and faculty. The Student Affairs team, including our LGBT Resource Center staff, stands ready to assist, as do all of us in leadership roles at the U. Individuals who are adversely affected can contact the University Counseling Center to receive personal support in coping with this tragedy .
We pledge to find ways, as a campus community, to advance human understanding, promote peace, and eliminate acts of violence and hate. This is perhaps the most crucial societal challenge we face in the twenty-first century . We ask all members of the U of U community – leaders, faculty, staff and students – to engage the vision of a truly inclusive campus that fosters empathy, acceptance and equal voice for all.
