Get Fit in 2017: Free Fitness Program

Want to start a fitness program but don’t know where to begin?

Do you want to get back into shape?

Have you been exercising and want to change things up?

If you answered YES to any of the above, we have a great program for you.

We are looking to recruit several participants to receive free physical activity
counseling from students in the Health, Kinesiology and Recreation Department
who are training to be Fitness and Wellness Specialists.

As part of the program you will receive:

  • Cholesterol and glucose screening (PEAK HPR-E 217)
    Appointments available:
    Tuesday, Feb. 28 from 7-9 a.m.
    Thursday, March 2 from 7:30-9 a.m.
    (Visit will take approximately 15 minutes)
  • Two 45-minute fitness assessments (HPR-N 235)
    Round 1: Wednesday, March 22 from 7:30-9 a.m.
    Round 2: Monday, April 24 from 7:30-9 a.m.(Assessments will include: body composition, heart rate and blood pressure,
    three-minute step test, grip strength and flexibility)
  • A four-week exercise program tailored to your specific goals (This will be a program you can do on your own time, at home and/or in a fitness setting, this is not an exercise class).
  • Individualized physical activity counseling
    *Please note the dates of the testing sessions as they cannot be changed.*

AORTIC ADVANCEMENTS: MAKING SURGERY SMALLER

Broadcaster Charlie Rose will be off the air for the next few weeks – recovering after undergoing an aortic valve replacement. But while every minute he is off the air may feel like an eternity to his fans they can take comfort in the fact that just fifteen years ago Rose’s recovery time would have been much, much longer. “It used to be that patients undergoing a valve replacement could expect to stay in the hospital at least a week with a few days in the ICU,” says Jason Glotzbach, MD, a cardiothoracic surgeon with University of Utah Health Care. “They would then recover at home for a couple of months. It was a big surgery.”

Hollywood is seeing double! Last month Beyoncé announced she is expecting twins, and today People magazine reported George Clooney and wife Amal will be welcoming a set of their own bundles of job. But  the twin trend isn’t only happening among the rich and famous.
