When Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion first launched the #CheckOnYourUCrew campaign in April, they never could have guessed how long the need for additional support for the campus community would last. Now, eight months later, as the COVID-19 pandemic continues to bring difficult change and stress to our lives, university leaders want to remind everyone to reach out to their friends, peers and colleagues.

“After physical distancing and staying home more than we’re used to over the summer and all of fall semester, not being able to gather with loved ones for holidays and over winter break may be especially difficult,” said Lori McDonald, vice president for Student Affairs. “We know our U community has been stepping up, offering virtual services and checking on one another and we want to encourage everyone to stay connected and continue supporting each other through this.”

As members of the U community switch to all online classes for the rest of the semester, take final exams and endure a physically distanced winter break, you are encouraged to call and text members of your U crew. Let them know you are there for them during this strange and difficult time, and remind them of the many resources available through the U, including:

Other resources for students can be found here.
Information on staffing during winter break can be found here.

Any members of the University of Utah community who have experienced domestic/interpersonal violence are encouraged to contact the Utah Domestic Violence Coalition or the University Center for Student Wellness. Racist and bias incidents can be reported via the Office for Inclusive Excellence form here.

You can also participate by sharing a photo, video or other message of encouragement and tips for how you are checking on your U crew on social media using #CheckOnYourUCrew.
