5 reasons to visit the Career Studio

Help is available for those setting out into the workplace.

Polish your first resume, perfect that cover letter, practice your interviewing skills and get support finding your dream internship. The team at the U’s new Career Studio can help you with all this and more. They’ll help you move away from just “talking” about your career and give you the skills to land the job. Then you can move out of your parents’ house, into a new salary range and into your future. So, invest in yourself and visit the Career & Professional Development Center’s new Career Studio today!

This isn’t just any ole’ stuffy, buttoned-up office space either. “But, how?” you ask. The team at the Career & Professional Development Center are at the forefront of national trends and have created an open, informal workspace owned by students. Walk in and you’ll notice the difference. Upbeat music is played every day and the selection of comfy places to work is as plentiful as the choices at the fuel station (that means free food and drinks). They know you work best when you are comfortable and content.

So, here are the five reasons why students should visit the new Career Studio ASAP:

1. Drop in without an appointment

Dropping by the Career Studio is easy. Flexible hours allow you to stop in when it’s most convenient for you. The Career Studio is open Mondays, Thursdays and Fridays from 8 a.m.-5 p.m., and Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 10 a.m.-7 p.m.

2. Dip your toes in” to career topics

The word “career” alone can be overwhelming. The Career Studio allows you to tackle career questions at your own pace. Peer educators offer guidance on a variety of career topics such as resumes, cover letters, interviewing, and job search strategies.

3. It’s an approachable, peer-led space

Is there any better way to learn, then from someone who has been through similar experiences? We don’t think so. The Career Studio is staffed with trained peer educators we’ve given the title “Career Ambassadors.” They’re current U students from a variety of majors and can relate to what you’re going through.

4. Accessibility for ALL

From the chairs to the layout of the space and the technology, accessibility is at the forefront of the Career Studio. Armless chairs, charging stations and access to laptops allow you to be comfortable and productive.

5. The Fuel Station

Career development is hard work. Studio visitors can recharge with free snacks, coffee and tea to help power through until your last class.
