The university will be conducting a TEST of the EMERGENCY ALERT SYSTEM and related processes on OCT. 21, 2015 at 10:15 a.m.
The university’s goal is to reach the greatest number of individuals in the shortest possible time. To that end we will use the following methods to send the alert:
The university’s Facebook page
The university’s Twitter feed
Push notifications from the U Heads Up! campus safety app
Email to your @utah.edu address
When the test is conducted an interactive website will be set to receive feedback. Links to the survey will be included in the test alert. Your feedback will help determine how effective the system test was at reaching critical mass in our community. Recipients will be entered into a drawing for one of four winners to receive $25 each on their UCard.
Multiple methods of communication are proven to have the most effectiveness in communicating information in emergencies.
You are encouraged to participate in all of them if you can and invite you to do the following:
- Text/SMS: Log into CIS, follow the links to Campus Alert, and make sure your SMS text number is correct in the system. Please do this by Oct. 19 so your information is ready for the test on Oct. 21.
- Social media: Please like the university’s Facebook page and follow the university’s Twitter feed.
- Mobile app: Please download the U Heads Up! campus safety app. This app allows visitors on campus or those not signed up for Campus Alert to receive push emergency notifications. It also contains a digital version of the campus emergency response guide and a hazard reporting tool.
- Email: Your @utah.edu email address is always used to receive alerts. You may also choose to add an alternate email address to your Campus Alert profile.
